A look back at our work with Bottarga: the ingredient comparisons, the people, and the story of a restaurant finding its new home.

The restaurant

There’s more to a restaurant
than the finished plate.

Bottarga brings together Italian, Asian and modern Australian influences. Behind it are Federico and Sommi, whose story began with a small restaurant on Martin Street before moving to Bay Street.

Our archive brings the creative work together in one place, from food knowledge and comparisons to the people and change behind the restaurant.

The creative approach

Make the knowledge visible.

The question behind this case study: how can a restaurant’s expertise become something useful and interesting to watch?

The connecting idea

Give people a difference
they can recognise.

NoticeUnderstandRemember

Comparing two familiar ingredients creates a question straight away: what’s different, and does it matter?

The explanation has something concrete to point to. The people delivering it give the restaurant a voice. The stories around the restaurant give that voice a place to belong.

01

The knowledge.

Burrata and butter comparisons, alongside ingredients and food questions. Familiar subjects give people a way into the restaurant’s expertise.

The roleGive someone a useful reason to watch.
02

The people.

The “About Us” story puts people at the centre. It connects the food to the experience and perspective behind it.

The roleMake the restaurant feel like people you know.
03

The next chapter.

The new restaurant launch and renovation story make change something people can follow, from the work in progress to a new place to visit.

The roleGive the story a reason to continue.

Ingredient comparison

The burrata comparison

Explore

A familiar ingredient, compared side by side. A clear difference gives the presenter something to explain and the viewer something specific to look for.

The useful part of this format is the question it creates: what should I notice, and when does that difference matter?

Ingredient comparison

The butter comparison

Explore

An everyday product becomes the starting point for a food conversation. Comparing the options makes the explanation tangible.

Using the same structure with a different ingredient gives the format continuity. The audience can understand the idea immediately, while the answer changes.

Food knowledge

Marrons: Australia’s Best Kept Secret

Explore

A food-knowledge story built around an ingredient. The title creates a gap between what the kitchen knows and what the viewer may have encountered.

The creative lesson is to make specialist knowledge accessible through one concrete subject.

Food conversation

Ranking pizzas

Explore

A ranking gives people a simple structure to follow and an opinion to compare with their own.

It offers a more playful entry point alongside the ingredient explanations and restaurant stories.

Archived production title.

Food conversation

Lab-grown meat

Explore

A topical food subject opens a different kind of conversation. The archived production title was “Lab Grown Meat Offering”.

This is a record of a past content topic. It does not describe Bottarga’s current menu.

The people

Bottarga’s “About Us” story

Explore

The restaurant’s story gives the food a human context. It makes room for the people and their point of view, alongside what appears on the plate.

In the wider body of work, this is the connection between learning something from a restaurant and getting to know it.

The new restaurant

A new home, part by part

Explore

The archive includes “Bottarga New Restaurant Launch Part 1” and renovation and reopening material.

A move has a natural story: a place is changing, people are making it happen, and something is taking shape. Following that process gives each update a reason to exist.

7 examples in the archive. Descriptions capture the creative approach; performance is being documented separately.

The takeaway

What does your team know
that someone else
would find useful?

A comparison gives the viewer a question. A person gives the explanation a voice. A restaurant story gives them a place to connect it to.

Start with something people can recognise. Show them something they hadn’t noticed.
